Modern Conscience handmade reproduction bases are featured at Plastolux.
June 2011

Plastolux.jpg Tyler at Plastolux did an amazing job restoring some vintage Eames sideshells and reconfiguring the shockmounts from wide to narrow. And he was kind enough to use our bases to finish the job. Really great work, and helpful information if you're planning a project like this in the future.

The Emeco Navy 111 Plastic Chair has arrived.
June 2011

EmecoPlasticChair.jpg Emeco and Coke partnered to make a new confection of sustainable recycled plastic chairs. We love the adaptive reuse and the rainbow of colors new to Emeco.

In 2006, Coca-Cola went to Emeco with a proposal. Their recycling plant in Spartanburg South Carolina was brand new and processing thousands of plastic bottles a day and they were looking for ways to show the value of recycled plastic. They introduced Emeco to the scientists at BASF together developed a proprietary mix with a special combination of pigment and glass fiber for strength. In Coke-Speak, The goal of the 111 Navy project was to alter consumer behavior by illustrating the value of rPET with beautifully designed and everyday products - ultimately encouraging more recycling.

When you recycle a plastic bottle, you're doing something good. When you recycle 111 of them, you're doing something great. Help your bottle become something extraordinary again. Gregg Buchbinder of Emeco, remembers, "When Coke came to me with this project I jumped on it. We have the potential of reusing about 3 million plastic bottles a year. That's a lot of bottles and a lot of chairs too. The new chair is the strongest, and most beautiful we can make. We've turned something you throw away into something you want and can keep for a long, long time."
