Early Vintage Eames for Herman Miller Second Generation 1950's Plywood Black Aniline Birch Molded Plywood LCM Lounge Chair - Unrestored
Design Charles and Ray Eames
Black Aniline Birch LCM (Lounge Chair Metal Base)
Vintage Original 1950's
manufactured by Herman Miller®
22" w | 24.25" d | 26.5" h | seat: 15.5" h
Designers Charles and Ray Eames established their long and legendary relationship with Herman Miller in 1946 with the boldly original molded plywood dining and lounge chairs. Designed to comfortably fit the body, the sculpted form of the molded plywood chairs are produced using thin sheets of lightweight veneer gently molded into curved shapes with natural rubber shock mounts to absorb movement. Since then, the chairs' aesthetic integrity, enduring charm, and comfort have earned it recognition as the best of modern design.
This particular example is from the 1950's and is in good condition. It features a handwritten original note on the underside indicating the model 'LCM.' The original finish has fantastic patina. We have not restored the finish because we think it looks incredible with the original finish worn exactly how it is, and many collectors prefer the original worn finishes. This piece also features all of it's original well-affixed shockmounts and screws. The rubber boot glides are new replacements and are true to vintage spec.
